Matt Wong

Matt Wong began practicing wushu in 1995 with the UC Irvine Wushu Team. He then trained with Coach Chris (Huy) Ho at the Southern California Wushu Academy and with Coach Huang Jiangang of the Guangdong Wushu Team. He was a USAWKF competitor from 2000-2006. He served as leader of the USAWKF’s Southern California delegation to the Second Traditional World Wushu Championships in 2006, where he took first place in Southern Staff and Tongbeiquan.

Matt began judging Wushu in 2006 at the 10th Annual Collegiate Wushu competition hosted by the University of Oregon and began judging USAWKF Team Trial events in 2009. In 2012 he attended the Judges Training Course in Guangzhou, China and was certified by the International Wushu Federation as a Wushu Taolu judge. Since then, he has served as a scoring judge for every USAWKF Taolu Adult Team Trial, Junior Team Trial and Taijiquan Team Trial. He has judged internationally at the 2013 Canadian Team Trials and at the 17th Bolivarian Games in Chiclayo, Peru.

In 2013, Matt founded the Orange County Wushu Association in Irvine, CA. In 2014 he joined the newly formed USAWKF Judge’s Committee.
